Burnsville

Located in Yancey County, Burnsville is located at the base of 6,684 foot Mount Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Rocky Mountains. At 2,815 feet in elevation, Burnsville is home to just over 1600 residents.

The town features lovely antique shops, bookstores and gift shops all within walking distance of its beautiful town square.

Open since 1833, the Nu-Wray Inn in Burnsville is the oldest continuously operating inn in Western North Carolina and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Mount Mitchell Golf Club in Burnsville was ranked as one of the top 10 public courses in the state, according to North Carolina Magazine. With lovely views of Mount Mitchell, the 18-hole course is relatively flat, featuring bent greens and a river that flows through the course.

Considered to be one of the most visually appealing courses in the country, Mountain Air Country Club is located at an elevation of 4,700 feet, and its course drops about 900 feet in elevation. Its surrounding real estate is occupied mostly by retirees and second-home owners.

Burnsville Town Center is a community building that hosts events, performances, conferences and the farmers market.
